Zona Centro - "Viña del Mar". INFORMATIONS
Viña del Mar is a municipality, part of the Fifth Region, near the capital region of Santiago de Chile.
The history of Viña del Mar is short, just centennial. In the colonial time there were here 2 estates: the first, the Viña del Mar, was north of the creek Estero Marga Marga and had a vineyard, the second, the estate of the 7 Sisters, located south of the creek, extended by 7 hills to Valparaiso. The wealthy merchant Francisco Alvarez bought the estate of Vine and five years later the estate of the 7 Sisters, owning the valley of Viña del Mar. His wife, Dolores Pérez Alvarez, a great lover of plants, moved there from Valparaiso and founded an exotic park, now known as the Quinta Vergara.
In 1855, the railroad was driven from Valparaiso to Viña del Mar, after great efforts to break through the coastal cliff and make great cut of land along the Cerro Castillo. Station was established and since then, the "locals" began to visit the valley of vineyards, where they made country walks, horse races organized and attended the bathing beach installed in Miramar, now defunct.
By 1872 some locals, mainly foreigners leased sites near the railroad tracks, where they built houses with large gardens and met with his old longing for wide open spaces that the narrowness of Valparaíso had not allowed them to achieve.
In 1874 he founded Viña del Mar. The town was installed five years later and the parish church and the Sporting Club in 1882. At that time began the uninterrupted flow of Santiago to the coast.
The flat valley, north of the Marga Marga creek and Liberty Avenue, its main axis, were divided into lots in 1892, thus the construction of large mansions for the summer began. New residents who came from Valparaiso after the 1906 earthquake that destroyed much of the city raised their houses here. The development of the spa town has been constant since that time.
Today the city is renovated and the entire coastline shows a second generation of modern buildings occupying the site of the earliest summer homes. The activity of the city is intense and continuous: urban life focuses on Valparaiso Street, shopping center and meeting place for lunch in cafes and tearooms. You go to the beach to relax and entertain and, at night, there are attractive the different activities organized in the coastal resorts. It is world famous for the Song festivals held there, and the beauty of the city.
Its famous Mediterranean climate, pollution-free beaches, its picturesque countryside and the city-sea, the offered security, the heritage of castles and palaces, its intense cultural life and night, give a unique character to the city of Viña del Mar, considered the tourist capital of Chile. It has a quality tourism infrastructure, an issue that directly affects the lodging and dining establishments.
